Prof. Harald Fuchs, German Academician, Visits ACME for Academic Exchange
Recently, Professor Harald Fuchs—academician of the German Academy of Sciences and the German Academy of Engineering and Director of the Institute for Physics at the University of Münster—visited ACME to explore their facilities and engage in a fruitful exchange of ideas.

Professor Fuchs is internationally recognized as one of the early pioneers in scanning probe technology. In 1983, he began his postdoctoral work at IBM, collaborating with Gerd Binnig and Heinrich Rohrer—the inventors of the scanning tunneling microscope (STM), who later received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1986—to advance STM/STS techniques. Since 1985, he has independently developed and constructed various innovative scanning probe microscopy (SPM) systems, initiating groundbreaking research directions that integrate self-assembly systems with precision chemical reaction platforms and STM technology.

During his visit, Professor Fuchs conducted in-depth discussions on the core designs, key performance parameters, and other technical details of ACME’s self-developed SPM systems and core components. While he offered high praise and full endorsement for their technological achievements, he also shared his own insightful ideas and constructive suggestions.

Prof. Dr. Harald Fuchs serves as Director of the Institute of Physics at the University of Münster, a member of the German National Academy of Sciences, the German Academy of Engineering, the European Academy of Sciences, and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He is also the founder of the Center for Nanotechnology at the University of Münster.
